Babe the Muffler Man
San Jose, California
Type: Classic (22 ft. tall)
Arm position: Standard
Accessories: Muffler
San Jose's Muffler Man is in good shape, although his accompanying vertical sign for "Muffler Babe's" continues to rust, chip and fade.
He's a good example of the "classic" fiberglass M-Man, actually holding a muffler -- a real car muffler painted bright red, instead of a better proportioned prop giant muffler. This might suggest to the suggestible that Babe is not a larger-than-life rendition of a real person, but an actual giant with a nimble touch fit to repair and replace mufflers.
In the 1970s, San Jose had as many as three Muffler Men statues advertising Babe businesses.
