Black Diamond's Leg

Field review by the editors.

Helena, Texas

Here's more on the unfortunate tale of circus elephant Black Diamond. Helena is a ghost town of a community bypassed by the railroad in the 19th century. The old courthouse and post office, along with other buildings, have been preserved as museums by the Karnes County Historical Society. The leg is on display in the post office; the bluish appendage stands in a corner. A video recounts Black Diamond's story.

Most of the rest of Black Diamond can be seen about 250 miles away in Corsicana, Texas.
