Goofy Golf
Pensacola, Florida
This Goofy Golf was built by Jacob Pryor in 1958 (he had previously built a real golf course in Pensacola) and is only related by name to the elaborate statue concepts that were later created by Lee Koplin at Goofy Golf in Panama City Beach. Adding to the confusion, most of the surviving statues and hazards at Pensacola Goofy Golf were added in the late 1970s from the Sir Goony Golf chain, a competitor that ripped off many of Lee Koplin's designs.
Goofy Golf was falling apart when new owners took over in 2001 and began a gradual restoration of the two 18 hole courses. That ended in September 2004, when Hurricane Ivan caused such extensive damage that the course was closed. It reopened under new ownership on April 1, 2007, but by 2014 it was abandoned and weed-choked again. In 2016 it was purchased by new owners (First Tee Gulf Coast), who restored and reopened the attraction in June 2017.
