Moffles - Auto Parts Man
Phoenix, Arizona
The fiberglass muffler man Bunyan may have left Broadway Rd., but there's still something of interest on this wide boulevard south of the city. A car part statue towers next to the yard entrance for Charly's Auto Servicio, appearing to wave large red paddles as if he's signaling a plane to land on an aircraft carrier.
Known as "Mofles" (or Moffles), the figure was welded together by Carlos Campos from discarded automobile parts and old mufflers in 1995. Mofles advertises various service specialties available at Charly's, such a "Radiadores."
Mofles almost attains the physical height of a fiberglass Muffler Man, taller than most auto parts sculptures we've seen. His face is painted in red brush strokes onto the flat top of a muffler -- slit eyes, dark eyebrows and mustache. He'd be a feverish night vision, but appears friendly enough for photo ops in broad daylight.
