Boy and the Boot.

Boy and the Boot

Field review by the editors.

Wichita, Kansas

Wichita's Boy and the Boot fountain arrived in Spring 1899, purchased by Finlay Ross, the city's wealthy mayor, with money from his own pocket. For 70 years it stood in North Riverside Park, in front of the Park Villa pavilion. Vandals destroyed it in 1969, but the city procured a new, bronze copy of the statue in 1978. It's now part of the historical collection of the Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum (Wichita's old City Hall).

The Boy is currently on the Museum's 3rd floor. We were told that visitors who want to see him should call to make sure he's still on display, although he usually is.
