Jayne Mansfield's Cenotaph
Hollywood, California
Movie-theater-TV actress Jayne Mansfield, killed in a Louisiana car accident on June 29, 1967, is buried under a heart-shaped headstone in Pen Argyl, Pennsylvania (she was born in Bryn Mawr, PA). However, west coast fans can pay their respects to the sex symbol at her memorial cenotaph, among cinema's iconic deceased, at the Hollywood Forever Memorial Park.
The granite slab, flat on the ground on the northeast side of the cemetery, is along the north edge of the small lake. It features an inlaid color photo of blonde bombshell Jayne in a white dress. Unsurprisingly, while the grave marker in Pen Argyl marks her birth year as 1933, the cenotaph uses the "I work in sexist/ageist Hollywood"-adjusted year of 1938.
