Boy and the Boot
Wellsville, Ohio
A Boy and the Boot fountain has stood in roughly this same spot in Wellsville since the early 1900s. The original was run over by a truck in the 1940s and destroyed. In 1951 the mayor tried to find a replacement, but had no success. Desperate to get their Boy back, two Wellsville residents built a replica out of plaster and burlap, using snapshots of the Boy as a model, but it lasted less than a year. Then local realtor Pete Amato somehow acquired an excellent copy of the Boy (supposedly cast by a company in Cleveland) and returned him to his former spot on July 30, 1983.
Despite occasional floods and truck near-misses, the Boy has stood here with his dripping Boot ever since.
