Exotic World - Jennie Lee, Bazoom Girl (Gone)
Helendale, California
Jennie Lee, the "Bazoom Girl," was the summoning force in the early days of the stripper community, creating the Exotic Dancers League in 1955. We met her on our very first Exotic World trip in 1987. She was sick, and would pass away within the next year, but greeted us cordially and cheerily showed us the collection.
Jane Briggeman, who founded the Las Vegas-based Golden Days of Burlesque Historical Society in 1995, wants to make sure that Jennie Lee is not forgotten. "Jennie created the Exotic World museum years ago while living in the Los Angeles area, San Pedro I believe, although I'm not sure exactly where she was living at the time because I have come upon a couple of different dates as to when she first created the museum."
Briggeman recounts how many of Jennie Lee's personal items were salvaged: "When I lived at the ranch, Jennie's things were stored in a shed with no roof. One day a hired hand dragged in a box of her photos and other paper memorabilia that were being exposed to the elements and asked me if the stuff in the box was worth saving...We then went out and looked around the shed and brought the additional boxes of paper items we could find into the museum and stored them in a back bathroom."
