Forest Fire Mass Grave Monument

Field review by the editors.

Moose Lake, Minnesota

453 people died on October 12, 1918, many of them near this spot. West of town, while attempting to flee a vast forest fire, their cars piled up in the smoke and flames on "Dead Man's Curve." A 27-foot-tall obelisk marks the spot where roughly 200 victims were buried in a big pit.
