Forest Fire Mass Grave Monument
Moose Lake, Minnesota
453 people died on October 12, 1918, many of them near this spot. West of town, while attempting to flee a vast forest fire, their cars piled up in the smoke and flames on "Dead Man's Curve." Many others in their homes and cellars died from smoke inhalation and suffocation.
A 27-foot-tall obelisk marks the spot where roughly 200 victims were buried in a big pit.
