Metal Men on a Roof
Umatilla, Oregon
Although so similar that they could be twins, the two big metal HVAC workers atop Eastern Oregon Heating and Air Conditioning are from different generations. One -- the receptionist we spoke with couldn't remember which -- was built in the 1970s "at a tin shop up in Yakima or Cross or someplace like that." In the 1990s that business failed, and the then-owner of the Umatilla shop bought the metal man. He liked it so much that he had his employees build a nearly identical companion, and stood the two on either end of his roof.
"People take pictures of them all the time," the receptionist said. "We get asked about them a lot."
