Hill Billy Heaven (Gone)
Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania
Someone with stencils, poster paint, and a power saw, has had fun.
Dozens of plywood panels have been scattered about this overgrown property and nailed to the outside of the various structures. Onto the wood has been painted simple representations of cowboys, rabbits, snowmen, wooden soldiers holding candy canes, pumpkins, smiley faces, Dutch children, witches, Santa, Indians. An old well has been labeled, "LASTBEERHOLE;" a space underneath the front window, "HOME OF THE POORBOY HEAVEN AMEN." Several signs around the property declare, "SPEED KILL 55."
This place reminded us of Hattadare Indian Village Park in both its cryptic approach to art and in its camera-shy creators. Paths have been worn through the waste-high weeds, and it seems as if someone lives inside the paint-peeled trailer on the property, but no one answered our knock.
Update March 2009: Ray H. writes "Unfortunately, I have to inform you that this attraction hasn't existed for the last year or so. The owners have taken everything down and it is now just a bare front yard."
