Speaking in Tongues Began Here
Los Angeles, California
William J. Seymour was banished from a Los Angeles mission when he claimed that being "filled" with the Holy Spirit was invariably accompanied by speaking in tongues. He and his ousted followers moved to this nearby house, and on April 9, 1906, several of them got filled at once. Their shouts were so loud that it upset the neighbors, the press found out, and the ensuing publicity resulted in many miracles of healing, much additional shouting, and the birth of Pentecostalism.
