World's Smallest Church (In Transition)
Forestville, California
Consecrated in 2006, Missionary Independent Spiritual Church was open to all faiths. The church, a former bus stop refurbished for a higher purpose, comfortably accommodated two people (careful not to elbow any deity statuettes).
Reverend Miss Catherine offered palm and tarot card readings right in the tiny church. Candle prayer services were conducted daily, and candles were always aflicker with custom requests for financial or romantic fortune. It was conveniently located next to a voodoo shop, also presided over by Rev. Miss Catherine, who distributed free hand fans.
An early morning fire on July 14, 2017 consumed the little church building (the only casualty; the voodoo shop and miniature railroad with mini-tiny church survived). Rev. cat announced that all candle services on the property have ceased, but also that there are plans to rebuild.
