Real Gold Nuggets (Gone)
Carson City, Nevada
Though this particular collection may be rare, seeing misshapen straight-from-the-ground gold nuggets in a casino is not unheard of. We've eyed 'em in Vegas. But where most places would sequester prized nuggets behind security, deep inside the casino, the Carson City Nugget sticks them right inside the entrance.
It's as if they're saying, here they are, take a look and get it out of your system. Then sit down and gamble, or move on....
Using a hokey western type font, the exhibit proclaims it is the "World's Rarest Gold Collection" -- the gold itself lit behind glass that's framed with light bulbs, like a cheap motel sign. The value of the assortment of gnarly pebbles has been estimated at over ONE MILLION dollars (and perhaps substantially more, with the rise of gold prices).
Dec. 2010: The collection of gold nuggets was auctioned off after it was determined that they weren't vital to the operation of the casino.
