World's Largest Petrified Tree
Holbrook, Arizona
Signs along I-40 beckon travelers to stop at Geronimo Trading Post to see the World's Largest Petrified Tree. When you get there what you'll see is a massive rock stump about ten feet high at the back end of the parking lot, flanked by lumpy debris that may or may not have once been attached to it. The stump looks as if it might be hollow, like an old tree trunk. About a dozen teepees, which appear to be made of painted wallboard, dot the property, and there are two giant Indian pots as well, adding to the sense of dislocation.
