Boothill Cemetery
Billings, Montana
A road winds along the edge of a rocky butte, scenic overlook down into Billings, outlying storage tanks, and factories. Boot Hill and the Sacrifice Cliff sign sit at the bottom of the hill east of the airport.
As Boot Hills go, this one is pretty minimal -- roughly 25 Billings citizens and denizens are buried, but no original markers survive. Some have been added over time and the plot is preserved as a historical site. A large stone cairn features this inscription: "Upon this rugged hill the long trail past, these men of restless will find rest at last."
But not too much rest. Commerce has encroached -- the Boothill Inn is across the street, Applebees on the other side, and McDonald's arches are visible nearby.
