Chief Bemidji Statue
Bemidji, Minnesota
For over a hundred years a statue of Chief Bemidji has stood in his namesake city of Bemidji, Minnesota. A Chief carved by retired lumberjack Eric Boe had looked out over Lake Bemidjigamaug since 1952, replacing the 1898 version that had fallen apart.
In June 2015, the second Chief was moved indoors to the Beltrami County History Center (where the crumbled first statue stands) and was replaced with the third: a dignified, rather humorless (but intricately sculpted) bronze statue of a more life-like Chief Bemidji.
