Pyramid Supper Club
Beaver Dam, Wisconsin
The Pyramid Supper Club looked pretty great in its day, a 40-ft. tall replica of the famous Egyptian structures. The interior was done up in meticulous, brightly colored faux-ancient columns, statues and wall paintings. It was built in 1961 by two couples as a themed restaurant and bar.
We have a fairly awful story about our visit in 1986. Not to go into the details here, but our published joke in Roadside America about a "curse" on all pyramid-shaped establishments seemed to kill the owner on the spot while we were standing there showing him the book. It was a stroke, and he survived, but we felt a little bad about taking photos of the ambulance pulled up at the Pyramid entrance. We decided never to mention the curse to a pyramid owner again....
The Pyramid had several incarnations when it came to its name: it was The Pyramid, then the "The Nile Club," and last operated as the "Pyramid of the Nile" owned by Raymond and Denise Olson. Slogan: "Pyramid of the Nile - Egyptian Fine Dining Experience!" (the menu was American cuisine, such as Pharaoh's prime rib).
They reluctantly closed in late 2009 due to the sagging economy. The Pyramid was for sale as of May, 2010.
