Lucy's Grave
Jamestown, New York
Lucille Ball, America's favorite madcap TV redhead, was born in Jamestown in 1911. Her family moved shortly thereafter, but Lucy always had a soft spot for Jamestown, and her return visits later in life were red carpet events for the community.
When she died on April 26, 1989, her ashes were interred in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Hollywood, which somehow didn't seem right. So her kids pulled Lucy out of her wall niche three years later and moved her to the family plot at Lake View Cemetery in Jamestown, where she now rests with her parents, brother, and grandparents. The black granite tombstone, taller than the others in its neighborhood, is decorated with pebbles and pennies left by fans, and engraved with a big heart like the one seen in the credits of Lucy's namesake I Love Lucy show.
Similar hearts have been stenciled by the cemetery onto its roadways, enabling visitors to follow their hearts to Lucy's grave.
