Tall Skinny Sheriff Carving (Gone)
Canon City, Colorado
Carved from a single tree trunk, probably 30 feet tall, and as skinny as the World's Tallest Indian -- another towering giant constricted by tree girth to string bean proportions. The sheriff's pistol-ended arms are mounted on pivots, and look as if they had been motorized to raise and point at the traffic on US 50, but they weren't working on the day that we visited.
Other big statues, also carved from tree trunks, keep the sheriff company, including a cowboy, a couple of nesting bald eagles, a cactus, and a way-out-of-place slicker-clad New England fisherman.
