Shorty was a burro, and the beloved town mooch of Fairplay, CO. Bum was his dog pal. When Shorty died and was buried on the courthouse lawn, Bum was grief-stricken. He lay down on Shorty's grave and refused to move or eat until he died as well. Shorty was then dug up, and Bum was laid to rest alongside his friend.
