Rebuilt McKinley birthplace home.
Fake Birthplace Home of William McKinley
Niles, Ohio
President McKinley was born in a small wooden home that was later destroyed by fire. Years afterward the McKinley Federal Savings and Loan occupied the spot, with a fancy bronze McKinley-profile plaque mounted on a wall in the lobby that explained the site's significance. In the early 2000s the bank was torn down and, full circle, a replica McKinley Birthplace was built on the site. It actually looks much nicer than the original birthplace. Almost too nice. The plaque was salvaged and once again is displayed on a wall indoors.
