World's Most Perfect Statue of George Washington
Glendale, California
"World's Most Perfect Statue of George Washington." So says the promotional literature from Forest Lawn's Glendale cemetery, where the statue resides. According to the cemetery, the statue was originally meant to stand in the rotunda of the U.S. Capitol, but the government never paid for it. So it ended up here. Only a few feet from the statue is an outdoor mural recreating John Trumbull's painting of the Signing of the Declaration of Independence, but it's three times bigger than the original, and made of 700,000 pieces of tile. Also: Ronald Reagan married his first wife Jane Wyman at the cemetery's swan-filled lake.
