JFK Memorial at Whiskeytown
Whiskeytown, California
Less than two months before his assassination, President Kennedy traveled to Whiskeytown in northern California to dedicate a new dam. A year later a memorial was unveiled on the spot, by artist R. Ciabani: it's a series of stark white cement bas reliefs set into an open-frame wall, including one of JFK giving a speech at the dam, labeled, "He Was His Own Profile In Courage."
Standing to one side of the wall is stainless steel column with a big black button; an attached sign reads, "Press the button to hear excerpts from the President's dedication speech."
Probably no "Ich Bin ein Whiskeytowner" moment, but you'll never know unless you push the button....
