Bronze Bodies Emerge From Bronze Wall
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Officially titled "Freedom," the 20-foot-long bronze sculpture is a four-stage time-lapse of a single figure being birthed out of a wall. This horror/sci-fi imagery is compounded in the wall itself, whose lumpy surfaced is riddled with random figures including the face of sculptor Zenos Frudakis and his cat. Unveiled in 2000. Frudakis has also sculpted a similarly unusual statue of Nina Simone, and a more traditional Frank Rizzo. Added bonus: Frudakis included the words "Stand Here" inside the wall's hollowed-out body cavity, so that people would stand in it for photo-ops.
