A bronze plaque, which looks more battered than other, older plaques nearby, marks the historic spot in front of Atlantic City's Convention Hall where New Jersey's governor signed into law the Casino Control Act, enabling the state to become the second in the U.S. to host casino gambling. It was June 2, 1977. Atlantic City was desperate. The good times lasted about ten years.
