Big Golden Propeller
Camden, New Jersey
Officially this is the American Merchant Marine Memorial of World War II, and it sits within view of the Battleship USS New Jersey, another attraction on the Camden waterfront. The big ship that once used this golden propellor is unidentified, but one can easily imagine that it was salvaged from an American vessel sunk by a Nazi U-boat.
"Their graves," reads an inscribed plaque about the WWII merchant mariners, "are marked only by the waves of the ocean." And now also this big propellor.
