Confederate Battle Pigs
Cana, Virginia
Mountain Man was the name of a roadside stand run by John Towe, a bearded guy in bib overalls who endorsed Republicans and pigs (as he would tell anyone who asked). In addition to selling items such as boiled peanuts and old whiskey barrels, Mountain Man sold hams made from hogs raised and slaughtered on his property.
Mountain Man had a cement porker out by the highway decorated with a Confederate Battle Flag -- meant as a tribute to the pig. The flag was featured on a number of items for sale in the gift shop, and served as bunting around framed portraits of Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson, and Nathan Bedford Forrest.
An early 2020 drive-by revealed that Mountain Man has been renamed Mountain Gals. We didn't have time to check out the gals' gift selection, but we did note that the produce stand now has two Confederate Battle Pigs.
