Softball Field Lighthouse
Paulsboro, New Jersey
The Tinicum Rear Range Lighthouse is still a functioning lighthouse, warning ships on the Delaware River that if they steer too close, they'll end up in Paulsboro's softball fields. The softball fields weren't always here, of course; back when the light was switched on in 1880, the property was occupied by a little house and garden for the lighthouse keeper.
The light has been automated for decades, and visitors are now welcome to climb the 112 steps to the top, although the lighthouse is only open sporadically during the warm weather months. If your timing is just right, you'll have a unique vantage point to watch a softball game.
