2000 U.S. Population Center
Edgar Springs, Missouri
What's unique about this particular population center -- there's a new one every ten years, determined by U.S. Census data -- is that the flagpole marking the site is topped by what appears to be an old-fashioned rotating red beacon from a police car. When lit and spinning, it would certainly make the center easy to spot, especially at night.
The actual center disc is at the base of the flagpole, and two small stone benches have been provided so that visitors can sit and soak in the centeredness -- or at least they could until 2010, when the center moved several miles southwest.
