Steampunk Tree House
Milton, Delaware
In 2007 artist Sean Orlando supervised the construction of Steampunk Tree House, a blocky, cool-looking welded-together retro-futurist domicile atop a 40-foot-tall tree trunk made of recycled steel plates. It was a hit at 2007 Burning Man, but what do you do with an eight-ton, four story tall artwork afterward?
You sell it to a microbrewery that wants to boost its recognition among twentysomething beer drinkers. The Tree House was moved cross-country and erected on the brewery's front lawn in 2010. Visitors can admire it from the ground, but access to the interior of the Tree House is restricted to brewery employees.
