Teddy Roosevelt's Giant Head
Watford City, North Dakota
The giant head -- 20 feet tall -- formerly stood in Lead, South Dakota, where it was in the company of many other giant heads in an attraction named Presidents Park. That attraction closed in 2010. In 2012 Marty Mulder, a big Teddy Roosevelt fan, heard about the giant heads from a South Dakota traveling salesman staying at Marty's motel. Marty drove to South Dakota, saw the giant Roosevelt head, bought it, and had it trucked to his North Dakota motel, the Roosevelt Inn, which already had many Teddy items as decorations.
Marty believes that the giant Teddy head, which is made of cement and steel and weighs eight tons, will attract tourists not only to his motel, but to the North Unit of Theodore Roosevelt National Park just north of town. According to the National Parks Service, the North Unit is the second-least-visited national park in the entire U.S.
