War on Terrorism Monument

Field review by the editors.

Bethlehem, West Virginia

An upright, black granite slab, engraved "War on Terrorism," features a laser-etched photo of a soldier standing on a bleak wasteland, looking up at an American flag stretched taught in a breeze, while behind him sits an armed Humvee and above flies a military jet. Definitely not a glamorous depiction of war, it looks like we're fighting terror on the Moon. According to the engraving, the U.S. military is "serving our nation under God." It was unveiled on July 4, 2013, next to an older, white slab memorial for the Vietnam War.
