Statue of the Hilarious Bulldog
Portland, Oregon
An English bulldog, born in Portland in 1996, was turned by her owner into a gold mine of books, greeting cards, and calendars. Named "Zelda Wisdom," the dog was granted an audience with Oprah and was always dressed in funny faux-human clothes.
On May 21, 2010, a life-size bronze statue of Zelda was unveiled at the entrance to Portland's Heathman Hotel, which sought publicity for its pet-friendly policies. Created by "art dog sculptor" Jim Gion, Zelda is dressed as a Heathman "beefeater" doorman, although of course her clothes are hilariously too big.
A bronze dog bowl in front of Zelda is supposedly always kept full of water for passing pooches.
