Junk Yard Dog
San Antonio, Texas
In October 2006 artist Bob "Daddy-O" Wade built this goofy cartoon creature for a friend, who set it up on the sidewalk outside his junk yard (Bob is fond of junk yards, which are places where he gets a lot of his raw materials). The dog's head and neck are a 1966 Plymouth Fury standing on end; its nose is the hood of a VW Beetle; its tongue is a shaved-down hood of a Cadillac.
Bob's friend later died, and his family sold the junk yard, but its new owner has wisely kept Junk Yard Dog. "It's one of my favorite pieces," said Bob.
