Room No. 7 is Aileen's old Room No. 9.
Serial Killer's Motel Room
Port Orange, Florida
This isn't just the motel room of a serial killer, it's the motel room of a rare female -- and famous -- serial killer.
For a period of months in 1989 and 1990, Aileen Wuornos slept in Room 9 (2015: since renumbered as Room 7) of the old Fairview Inn in between her capital crimes. She was eventually arrested in the biker bar up the street, and convicted of murdering seven men at seven different times and places in less than a year. She originally said it was self-defense, then later confessed that she "seriously hates human life and would kill again."
Aileen was executed in 2002 and became famous in 2003 when Charlize Theron played her (and won an Academy Award) in the movie "Monster." The Fairview Inn stayed pretty much the same -- it was not very nice -- until 2011, when retired biker Mike Bock bought the motel, cleaned it up, renamed it The Scoot Inn, and did his best to distance it from its unsavory past. Ironically, he made it a much more inviting place to stay for people wanting to sleep in the same room as a famous serial killer.
If Room 9 is booked, you may want to try Room 4, which in 2007 was a hideout for two men suspected of dismembering a woman and scattering her body parts throughout Florida.
