Stow Lake Ghost Lady
San Francisco, California
This bronze pioneer mother (with two naked kids) statue -- originally part of the 1915 San Francisco World's Fair -- has been incorporated into local lore of a late-19th-century woman who disappeared in Stow Lake looking for her lost baby, even though the statue has nothing to do with it.
The legend was probably boosted by the fact that the woman and her unclothed kids look weird to modern eyes, and also that the statue pedestal features eight corner cattle skulls.
