Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto: Healing Tap Water

Field review by the editors.

Bronx, New York

Built in 1939, this rocky replica was inspired by the grotto at Lourdes in France, famous for its healing water. The liquid that runs down rocks of this grotto is plain old New York City tap water (blessed annually by a priest), but this doesn't stop visitors from drinking from the artificial spring or filling containers and taking some home, hoping for a little miracle mojo.
