25-Foot-Tall Aluminum Bass Guitar Man
Muscle Shoals, Alabama
Far-freaking-out. A 25-foot-tall bass player sits on a stool, in front of the town library and next to the high school, with curly hair, mutton chop sideburns, a mustache, aviator sunglasses, and bell bottom jeans. The large, shiny, aluminum sculpture is modeled on a 1973 photo of bassist David Hood of the group Traffic, who was at its dedication on Nov. 7, 2014. It was created as a tribute to the rock musicians who played at the nearby Muscle Shoals recording studios.
The statue was sculpted by Audwin McGee, the same artist who made the giant aluminum pseudo-Elvis in neighboring Sheffield.
