The World's Fair Column of Leaders
Queens, New York
A forgotten stone column at a former entrance to the New York World's Fair is engraved with a list of the many Heads of State who visited the Fairs of 1939 and 1964.
The list includes several U.S. Presidents, a British King, and an Italian Pope -- and slightly less remembered leaders from points around the globe, such as Diosdado Macpacal of the Philippines and Mwambutsa IV of Burundi. According to the column, President John F. Kennedy, who was assassinated in 1963, visited the 1964-65 Fair, which must have been a remarkable and miraculous sight (or perhaps a chiseling error).
