U.S. Army Aviation Museum

What kind of aviation does the Army use that's not provided by the Air Force? A quick tour of this museum reveals the answer: mostly spotter planes and helicopters. The choppers are the stars: one particularly memorable diorama features a real Huey crashed into a Vietnam rice paddy.

You'd think that the museum's Army One presidential helicopter would be its most famous exhibit, but instead it's the 1993 Super 68, one of the three choppers that crashed in Mogadishu and were later made famous in the film, Blackhawk Down. (Tipster Jim notes that the "Mogadishu" aircraft is beautifully restored).

Directions:: Drive north from Daleville on Hwy 85/Daleville Ave. to the Fort Novosel main gate. Get a pass at the Visitor Center, also at the main gate. All visitors 16 and older must have a photo ID.
