Ronald Reagan Statue
Fountain Valley, California
A six-foot tall bronze statue of a smiling, waving Ronald Reagan in a business suit stands atop a five-foot-high base. Although it's in a public park, it was paid for by a rich patron who preferred to remain anonymous.
Orange County was a bastion of Reagan-boosters, and this statue was clearly erected by his fans. The brass plaque on its base -- normally filled with straightforward text on a typical statue -- describes Reagan's two terms in office as "extraordinary" with "remarkable achievements." Reagan, it claims, "returned America to a period of economic prosperity and ended the Cold War." It notes approvingly of his administration's "low taxes" and "reduced regulations."
Mile Square Park was where Reagan launched his successful 1984 presidential reelection campaign. Local politicians tried (without success) to have it renamed for Reagan in 2004. The statue was unveiled in June 2015.
