Amphibious Soldiers of WWII Museum
Carrabelle, Florida
Camp Gordon Johnston opened in 1942. Its sole purpose was to train infantry divisions and special brigades for World War II amphibious landings in the Pacific, Africa, and Europe. It closed in 1946 after training a quarter-million soldiers and sailors.
The Camp Gordon Johnston Museum opened in the 1990s -- the heyday of Greatest Generation war history fever. It displays the expected military uniforms and equipment, as well as an ample collection of World War II victor booty, a replica landing craft, and a diorama of toy soldiers storming Carrabelle Beach in Florida.
