Pink Poop Gumby
Long Island City, New York
Unveiled in November 2016 to the horror of local residents, who had fought against the sculpture since it was first announced two years earlier. Officially titled, "The Sunbather," Ohad Meromi's nine-foot-tall bronze artwork resembles a large creature made of wads of used chewing gum, covered in special bright pink paint that will supposedly never fade. It cost taxpayers over a half-million dollars. They christened it with a number of descriptive monikers evoking dead bodies and human waste. Meromi told a local newspaper that he found the loud outcry against his artwork "confusing."
