With an industrial boiler body and muffler sidekick robo-dog, the welding man holds a muffler aloft in triumph. Assembled by the Somerville family -- which owns the muffler shop behind him -- over 10 years ago, the welding man is usually photographed by passers-by with his ominous welding mask in place. In the past the mask could be flipped up to reveal a smiling face on his propane tank head, but recent reports suggest that the mask has now been welded shut.
