World's Largest Pair of Overalls
Grand Island, Nebraska
"We don't have a whole lot of information about them," said Jace Robinson at the Nebraska State Fairgrounds, talking about the World's Largest Pair of Overalls. They arrived, he said, sometime in the 20th century, when the Fairgrounds were in Lincoln, as part of a vendor display for the Lee company. When the company ended its affiliation with the Fair, the salesman who ran the display took the overalls home with him.
"The State Fair moved to Grand Island, and then we found out that the salesman was from Grand Island," said Jace. "His wife had the overalls. She offered them back to us."
How large are the World's Largest Pair of Overalls? "We don't have that information, and we can't find anyone who does," said Jace, although he's been told that frame holding them is seven feet wide and 18 feet high.
Jace reassured us that the Fairgrounds was committed to keeping the Overalls on public display, but conceded that their immense size was a logistical problem. "How do you display something that big without covering something else up?"
