Devil-ish Little Things Museum
Vancouver, Washington
Marion Held grew up in Germany and always had an affinity for fairy tales, Halloween, and Krampus. She moved to the U.S., became a special-effects artist in Hollywood -- specializing in sci-fi and horror creatures -- and began collecting devils.
Thousands of devils.
In August 2017 she found a former church "by happy accident," she told us, and decided it would be a nice space for her home museum of what she calls "novelty objects," mostly European. Devils are everywhere, depicted in statues, figurines, masks, jewelry, books, lamps, matchboxes, bottles, vases, and entire sets of dishes. The predominant color of her home decor is devil red.
Marion welcomes visitors by appointment, and wants to reassure everyone that, despite superficial appearances, her collection is whimsical and playful, "nothing religious or satanic."
