Torch of Freedom
Rogers City, Michigan
This replica of the Statue of Liberty's torch was sculpted by Tom Moran of Moran Iron Works, and debuted in Onaway's July 4th parade in 2004. As was Tom's custom at that time, he then donated the sculpture to another town so that he wouldn't have to be reminded of its minor imperfections, or fret about its maintenance. "The further they are away, the less problem they are in the future," he told us.
The torch is roughly three-quarters the size of the original, and was designed to shoot real fire, but the flammable part has been replaced with a flame made of glittery metal.
