Food Truck-Shaped Building
Margate City, New Jersey
Opened in 2016, the owners of Margate Burger had spent eight years converting a former bank -- which closed during the Great Recession of 2008 -- into a restaurant. The bank's former vault became the restaurant's pantry, its drive-up windows were repurposed to dispense bagged food instead of cash, and the two-story exterior was repainted into a blocky version of a food truck.
Margate Burger finally opened -- then went out of business.
A new restaurant, the similarly-named Miami Burger, occupied the space, but in the summer of Covid-19 that business was listed as permanently closed. The building still retains some of the appearance of a food truck, in slightly more muted, sun-bleached colors.
