Rainboffalo
Great Falls, Montana
The colorful half-fish, half-bison mutant named Rainboffalo is a creature of friendly regard that has endured unexpected animosity. It was created by artist Chris Miller in 2005, part of a private collection until it was donated to Great Falls in 2010. The city felt this weird interspecies mule reflected positively on Great Falls and put it next to its riverfront trail, only to have it attacked -- all four of its fins were methodically ripped off -- in 2014.
It took 200 hours to repair Rainboffalo -- much of it spent trying to match its luminescent colors -- and the city then moved it to a prominent spot. The vandals, whatever their beef against Rainboffalo, appear to have retreated for now.
It should be noted that Rainboffalo is not a bison statue painted to look like a fish; it's a giant fish with a buffalo head and feet.
